Project I've been working on...

Postby 1985 4runner » Sun Mar 30, 2014 6:59 pm

As I'm sure everyone knows, all work (and prepping) make for a pretty dull grind from day to day. I believe you have to balance prepping with "living" to maintain. So I took some funds I had set aside for something else & built something for my oldest son- just to see his reaction. He's a big Dukes of Hazzard fan because I found it a wholesome show back in the 70s and bought him the DVDs because we don't have Cable or watch TV at home.

One day I brought home two used go-karts I picked up for $200

I'm finally finished with the first one:

It's a one seater Yerf-dog that I rebuilt & painted. I added an extra set of pedals that he could reach, a kill switch & seatbelt for safety, hand painted the wheels and "01" plate. I painted the whole thing orange, added a confederate flag & installed a working push-button "Dixie" horn. My son helped along the way with painting, engineering & "driver input".

Seeing my son's reaction was something I'll never forget. Somehow I know he'll remember the time we spent together on this project.

How about an update?

Has your son worn out the tires on his "General Lee"? Wondering what the second cart is going to look like.

We had a go-cart when we were growing up. Those days are some fun times that me, my brother & sister will always remember.

That looks like a lot of fun and a great father/son project. You are definitely doing it right and building good memories!

That should get you a nomination for Father of the Year.

The kart is used often & the second one is still in the works. I had to order a new carb & haven't gotten around to installing it yet.
