Mountain House Freeze Dried Packet

Postby Muleskinner » Wed Aug 28, 2013 7:37 pm

Picked up my first packet of freeze dried Mountain House food. Was in Wally World a couple of days ago and was checking out the empty ammo case when I finally remembered to grab one of the freeze dried Mountain House entree's. Decided to go with the Chile Mac selection. Prepared it per the instructions on the package and found that it was still a little bit "soupy". Let it stand another 10 minutes or so and tried it. It was actually pretty good. Pretty spicey, too. I have read several reviews about some of the freeze dried options out there and found that Mountain House ranked pretty high, consistently. SOOO, next time I'm in China Mart, I plan to pick up the Eggs and Bacon Breakfast pack and if they have it, the lasagna.

I plan to try as many of these as are available here, locally. I think I've seen them at Academy Sports so I'll try to get by there to double check.

Pass on some of your recommendations for freeze dried foods. I prefer to try as many as possible before bulk buying for long term.

The Mountain House Beef Stroganoff isn't too bad to my taste. I think the trick is to not look at it while you are eating it lol

I suspect all of our tastes will change when TSHTF. What may seem OK, now will be gourmet when there is nothing else. I personally like Mountain House and find it make a quick meal when I am too lazy to cook. Beats the heck out of MREs. Skinner, Of all the ones I have tried, MH is the best so far. There is a company called GoGlobal and they are pretty good, but I suspect it is repackaged MH. Mountain House makes a lot of other brands and packages them with the buyers label.

FB65,
I never thought about that. I wonder if these re-packaged meals would be cheaper under different names but the same quality? Fixn' to head to Wally World to check on which different meals they have.
